Whole Faculty Study Groups®
wfsgCollaboration among teachers is a critical need and a common goal in schools - but it's much easier to talk about it than to make it happen. Finding time is one obstacle; having a system to facilitate the process is another.

QTL WFSGs offer schools the opportunity to make powerful collaboration a reality. Offered in cooperation with Carlene Murphy, the founder of Whole-Faculty Study Groups®, QTL WFSGs help schools build on teachers' QTL™ experience by creating school-wide professional learning communities.

This program includes a two day instructional leadership element on how to support Professional Learning Communities in your school.

Establishing a Professional Learning Community

Whole-Faculty Study Groups® helps create a strong professional learning community by involving all faculty in action-research cycles. These cycles analyze student data to identify needs. Teams of teachers then collaborate to create action plans that specifically address student needs across the curriculum by:

  • Establishing a baseline
  • Establishing goals for growth
  • Assessing progress
  • Examining growth at the end of the process
  • Determining next steps or next plan.

Teams meet weekly to assess progress.

Outcomes:

  • Student needs clearly identified and in depth.
  • Student needs addressed using strategies and skills examined in QTL, QTLCS.
  • A solid process to guide in establishing a professional learning community in each school capable of supporting itself as it moves forward.
  • Future professional learning exercise/workshops are selected for relevance to teacher/faculty/school needs.
  • Technology use is focused on student achievement.
  • Technology and professional development purchases are focused to accomplish specific goals and outcomes.
  • Mutual respect for the work being done by the faculty and the feedback provided by school leadership.
  • All areas of work focus on the students and the success of each student on a daily basis.
  • School administration is clearly established as the instructional leadership in the school through the process of regular interaction with study group logs.
